Summer of Love Mural Project

Summer of Love Mural Project

Friends of Redondo Beach Arts supports the work of eight docents who travel monthly to the Richstone Center in Hawthorne to present Hands On Art projects for their K – 8 after school program.   This summer Tasha Garfield, lead teacher and former president of Redondo Beach Art Group, was inspired to do something special with the students.  With volunteers from both the Friends of Redondo Beach Arts and the Redondo Beach Art Group, the Summer of Love Mural Project was completed August 19.

The mural measures 4 feet by 15 feet of brightly colored rectangles on one of the buildings of the facility.  Each of the 40 students made a drawing of something they love.  The drawings were then transfered to the mural background and each student painted his individual space.  Special thanks to professional muralists Bridget Duffy and Mark Fenton who donated the paint and many many hours of their expertise, and to Sheila Kutkus who did much of the prep work.

The project is now complete.  For more information, contact Tasha Garfield at 310.529.7615 or ms.tashag@icloud.com.
