Hands on Art at the Richstone Center

Hands on Art at the Richstone Center

Friends of Redondo Beach Arts supports the work of eight docents who travel monthly to the Richstone Center in Hawthorne to present Hands On Art projects for their after school program.  Students learn art history and are able to experience a variety of art media.

The project for November was Proud as a Peacock, based on work by American artist James McNeill Whistler.  Whistler’s Peacock Room is on display at the Smithsonian.

Students learned oil pastel techniques as they created imaginative and colorful peacocks on black sand paper.

Below is a gallery of student work.
